Councilman Michael D. Barnes is a Democrat and managing partner of the law offices of Fuller & Barnes, LLP. He was first elected to the Charlotte City Council in November 2005.

Michael is currently on the Council's Transportation Committee and Housing and Neighborhood Development Committee. While on those committees, he has worked hard to find permanent funding solutions for our road needs and more reasonable solutions to the various development challenges and opportunities that face Charlotte's neighborhoods. Michael is also on the board of the University City Partners, where he has led in the effort to improve and strengthen the core of University City.  Michael has also been proud to serve as Governor Bev Perdue's Charlotte Liaison. In that role, he works with the Governor to make sure that she is aware of the many needs of Charlotte and provides advice on potential ways to address those needs.

As he promised, the Michael has worked to preserve and improve our quality of life by reconnecting the people to their government. He's done this by leading the way on our efforts to get more police officers and patrols in northeast Charlotte and by supporting the police Chief's strategy to put even more officers on the streets. Michael has also done this through a series of Quality Neighborhoods meetings and casting votes that represent the best interests of his constituents.  The result has been a better mix of owner-occupied housing and higher quality retail development in District 4.

During his first two terms on the City Council, Michael has been instrumental in bringing more and better code enforcement to the District, more road repaving, more sidewalks and more street lighting to the District.

As he continues to work for the community, Michael asks for your continued support and input.
